History

Maragondon Water District is one of the twelve (12) local water districts in Cavite. The water district was created on November 12, 1991 by the Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 31-91 in the municipality of Maragondon, a combination of two previously existing RWSAs.

Prior to the creation of the water district, the municipality of Maragondon was originally serviced by two water systems: the Maragondon Rural Waterworks and Sanitation Association Inc. (MWRSA) and the Bucal II, III and IV Rural Waterworks and Sanitation Association.

The MRWSA, established in Maragondon, Cavite on October 15th, 1984 under the supervision of then-Mayor Telesforo Unas and Governor Juanito Remulla, initially served the areas of Poblacion I and II, Caingin, Garita and Bucal I. Bucal II, III and IV Rural Waterworks and Sanitation Association, on the other hand, served the remaining barangays of Bucal.

As the need for a bigger and more developed water system to provide Maragondon with its much-needed safe and sufficient potable water supply emerged, it became clear that the present water systems lacked the funds necessary to plan and implement improved water services for the municipality. Thus, through the support of the Maragondon municipal government under then-mayor Paulito Unas, the two systems were merged in 1987 to become what is now known as the Maragondon Water District.
